Thickness Based on Material:

Rigid Materials (PLA, ABS):
Your current thickness of 6mm is appropriate for rigid materials.

Semi-Flexible (PETG):
Consider increasing by 1-2mm (recommended: 7-8mm)

Flexible (TPU):
Consider increasing by 2-4mm (recommended: 8-10mm)

Overall Shape
Bends the rib lengthwise (like a slight bow) to help it conform to curved pottery surfaces
Edge Properties
Thickness at the perimeter edges
Edge thickness below 0.5mm may be difficult to print reliably
How far the edge angle extends inward
Edge depth exceeds safe dimensions - may cause issues
3D Printing Tips
Recommended Settings:
  • Layer Height: 0.2mm for standard quality, 0.1mm for smooth finish
  • Infill: 20-30% (higher for rigid ribs, lower for flexible)
  • Supports: Usually not needed
  • Print Orientation: Flat on build plate (unless you've added longitudinal curve)
Material Recommendations:
  • PLA: Best for rigid ribs, easy to print
  • PETG: More durable, semi-flexible
  • TPU: For flexible ribs (adjust thickness accordingly)
Important Notes:
  • Edge thickness below 0.5mm may require fine nozzle (0.3mm or smaller)
  • Ensure your slicer respects minimum wall thickness
  • Test with small models before full-size prints
  • Post-process edges with sandpaper for smoothest finish
